We go away 3 weeks today to Whitley Bay with the Sun holidays.
Has anyone been and could share things to do in the region? We have a DD 2 1/2 so will be having days out as well as trying out the pool too.
Any pointers/tips?
TIA

my grandma lives in Bedlington in Northumberland so have been there quite a bit. Whitley Bay has a lovely beach and a light house you can visit, there are some nice shops in the town and some amusement arcades. There also used to bae a leisure centre with a pool with wave machine in the town but dont know if thats still there?Whitley bay has a metro station that can get u to Newcastle or anywhere else you fancy or there are regular bus services. The metro shopping centre just outside Newcastle( well signposted on A1) Is worth a visit is you like shops plus there is free parking there and a cinema. Morpeth ( further up the A1, going towards Scotland), is a pretty market town with a river with childrens park, nice pubs and shops for an afternoon out. Beamish outdoor museum gives a taste of the North East( dont know if they have a website) and I remember my grandad taking me there about 25 yrs ago, and i loved it then. Further up the coast is Lindisfarne and holy island which is beautiful. I am coming up north again in July and cant wait!! hope i have been of some help?0

There is a lovely soft play called the Treehouse in Whitley Lodge (about a mile away from park). My d d is the same age and loves the place. There is also mini golf onthe front. Both that and the leisure centre (which has been totally refurbished and has a toddler pool with pirate ships, slide etc) are in walking distance. The lighthouse is too and has rock pools to explore for little creatures. Take care with the tides tho if walking across to the island. It is easy to misjudge and get stuck there for a while!0

yeh make sure you go to tynemouth - or just take them on a big tour on the metro - loads to see and do really..
I wouldve said Metro Centre but they ahve taken away the funfair now i believe so they would get bored just walking round the shops but Newcastle town centre and quayside is lovely and theres lots to do for the day there. And if you can - go further west and visit Corbridge. Lovely.
or even see if you can get out to keilder water - its a big day out with travelling but its really nice and has nature reserve and all that there too. fond memories of when i was a bit younger going thereone of the famous 5

You'll hopefully forgive me for being flippant but when I saw the thread title I was inclined to think that a "Sun Holiday" in Whitley Bay would be comparable to a Shooting Holiday in Tripoli.

Whitley Bay used to be the jewel in the crown of North East resorts but over the last 20 years it has (like many other Uk seaside resorts) turned into a lack lustre and run down location. The demise of the Spanish City funfair and the multi generation of binge drinking bars has took the true holiday heart out of the town. If it's a quiet midweek holiday you are after it's fine. If it's holiday thrills you will be struggling in the town itself. Take a ride on the Metro to South Shields, that is still a true seaside resort with all the entertainments and a much better vibrant town. You will not be dissappointed there.
You will still enjoy the north east though and you will be made to feel very welcome, I can assure you of that.
Hope I haven't offended the residents of Whitley Bay but I remeber what it used to be and wish very much it still was. Lot's of happy memories.:)0 -
Have a look on newcastlegateshead.com website - there's millions of things to do up here, just depends what you're into.
