    no you can see by using your eye.

    So long as the 4 pins are straight and uniform and not touching the sides you're good.

    None of the tips seem to be touching, thanks for the suggestion though.

    Any other suggestions gratefully received :D

    use a multimeter and probe for some voltages on the motherboard... about 90% of all faults are power supply related..

    Have you measured the output of the psu's to ensure both are working?
    (your not using the same mains lead on both, if so check the fuse in that).

    It may well be a fault on the motherboard itself, or something loose/bad that is connected to it (reseat ram, all plugged in cards such as wifi / modem etc).

    If reseating everything does not show any signs of life, and the psu's/mains lead are fine, then look at mobo failure.

    Its an old Acer
    it WILL be motherboard failure
    Acers are very much "built to a budget" and don't last long
