Can only access MSE, can you help me please?

Since turning on laptop this morning, I cannot access any other site, other than MSE (its an HP, 6 months old)
was working fine last night, and i have tried Ebay/google/yahoo etc, but it says internet explorer cannot display the web page

i know little if anything about laptops/software etc but i turned the router off and on again, still the same, tried a system restore (back to the 3rd) still the same, i cannot even google for help, can anyone here help me please?:(

Type this into a browser... 209.85.146.103

It's the IP address for Google.co.uk - can you see it? It might be something up with your DNS

i cant understand why i can access here but nothing else

ok.. DNS is a system that transforms '209.85.146.103' into 'www.google.co.uk' - if yours is messed up, then it can't do that translation.

One solution to this is to setup an openDNS account and use their service. However, you should probably also contact your ISP.

hi, i'm the same... but i think i know why.

my internet isn't fully set up yet by my new provider so i think my computer is wombling on a local cafe's free wi-fi... i think MSE is quite old school / simple / easy to load in its set up to allow those with only dial up to have quick access too (very MSE of Martin)... therefore i've guessed thats why my very slow connection can get onto MSE but no where else!
