Toshiba Equium Bios Password Help

Hi, Just wondering if anyone could advise. I bought my son a Toshiba Equium A100-549 in july. When using this a couple of weeks ago the computer froze, it wouldnt do anything so he had to take out the battery to cut the power as it wouldn't switch off. when he reinserted the battery the laptop just kept switching off. He left it for a few days and tried it again, this time it came on and stayed on but is now asking for a bios password. I called Toshiba customer services and told them what happened. They say that my son has somehow activated this password and this is not covered under the guarantee and I should take it to an authorized Toshiba dealer to repair. Should Toshiba not have supplied this password when we purchased this as he hasn't lost/forgotten it. Is there anything we can buy to override or remove this, or is a professional repair the best or only option. Cheers

I hear some where that "Most Toshiba laptops and some desktop systems will bypass the BIOS password if the left shift key is held down during boot"
Hope it helps.0 -
1.Try typing in 'Toshiba' as the password (known backdoor password)
2.Try a blank password
3.interogate your son for the word he typed in
4. use the keydisk.exe found Here
To use keydisk you will have to create a bootable CD using something like Nero and add the keydisk software on there. This is providing that you can actually boot from CD. Once booted you can execute keydisk by typing it in at the command prompt.
Other than that i would try removing the battery again for a good 15 minutes.
Best i could come up with.

Many thanks for your help, as soon as we can fix the problem ithe sooner I can claim back my pc, can't get near the darn thing since it messed up! I just tried the shift key on boot but it still wants a password. I'll have to get my son to try the other option, it's beyond me! Is the password installed on the machine on purchase, or is it up to the buyer to decide this, as he's told me he hasn't placed any passwords on it.0
