Arhhhhhh, i wanna scream........

How can this happen?

Nan (of 90) is currently selling her beloved family home (sale been going on since MAY  ) anyway to cut a very long story short, on 12th november nan got really fed up with being messed about and put an ultimatim to the buyers that if she has not moved by 15th Dec then she is withdrawing the house from the market. (agreed with by family and EA's advice)
Anyway everything suddenly got a move on and as of last week 15th dec (friday) is achievable.
Monday morning comes and told its alls going ahead, Monday afternoon........... a different story.
Buyers mortgate company have decided that as the house is 'unregistered' (nan owned house for at least 55 years also both EA and Sol aware of this since Aug) they are unwilling to release any monies (yet) but both EA and Sol say its still possible to get exchange and completion of Friday, but they dont know when the are going to get the OK  .
This evening, no change, EA not sure what is happening and that 'we' should maybe change the completion date.
We (me, hubby, sister, bil) have all booked the day off work (non-changeable) to move her and now it looks like its not going ahead.
To make matters worse i'm having difficulty finding either a hire van (7.5 t) or a removal company.

To say im fed up with this whole mess is an understatement.
I cant even imagine how nan feels.

Any advice from anyone as how to help nan survive the next few days?
I have let it be known to EA and SOL that this is one major !!!!-up from start to finish and that nan is seriously not a happy bunny.

Sorry to ramble, just needed to let off steam!

*forgot to add, there is only nan and the buyers in the chain!
They are buying as a buy to let, nan buying empty bungalow.

I'm sorry you are going through this. I also have buyers who are BTL with no chain either side, I also put an ultimatum to my buyers to complete by next week or we withdraw. My buyer is finding every excuse under the sun to delay despite telling me he was a cash buyer (he isn't) and could complete by mid november (we didn't even get close). My suspicion is that my buyer knows he is unlikely to get a tenant in before january so he doesn't want to compete until then to save himself paying the mortgage, maybe you have that going on too. Stick to your guns, I certainly will, if they won't complete by Friday then pull out, I know this is hard on your Nan but maybe the ups and downs of not knowing when she will move would be worse. But then maybe my opinion isn't the most objective one you are likely to get on here today:o

I really don't think the fact taht the house is unregistered should cause a big delay. It just means that the last time the house was sold was before the Land Registry started their current records. I'll see if I can find some info :)

Why don't you call your local office tomorrow and ask them how long it takes to sort out?

There's quite a bit of info and they say it is easy to do. Your nan's solicitor will already have copies of the deeds so I think it's almost a simple case of filling in a form and sending them over for the Land Registry to log.

It won't take long; and if the mortgage company have been asked to release funds, then the finish line is in sight!

    :)

The solicitor said the same as you doozergirl, that its a minor set back, but whats troubling me is that the sol told me on Monday early eve (4.45pm) about the hic-cup with it being unregistered, and that it is a simple procedure to get sorted. Will be done by tomorrow (tuesday)
But 2 days later there's no word as to what is happening. The contracts still have not been exchanged and still no confirmed completion date

The most fustrating thing is that no-one seems to know (or care) what is happening.

I understand that moving is a stressful time, but poor nan, her buyers seem to be doing nothing but delaying all the time. Half way through the sale they changed solicitors (so apparently it all had to start again). Its just one thing after another with them.

I have stated the urgency to the EA and Sol for nan to move as shes not in the best of health and needs support from the family (shes moving to be closer to us)

Maybe tomorrow might be a better day!

Maybe the best thing for nan is that you agree a timescale that is fully acheivable by all instead of hanging by a thread?

Otherwise, permanently hanging on the phone to the solicitors and the EA and acting like a person possessed often means they will do anything to get you out of their hair! Sad but true.
