Textured Paint?

I want a paint finish on my plastered walls that looks 'thicker' than normal paint - Think old french whitewash walls but I don't want it too thick or artexy.
How can i achieve this? The walls are generally good, sound condition but a bit too patchy with odd marks for normal paint.
Helpful advice appreciated before i go to B & Q!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean - you want a rough hewn look?
Exterior masonry paint might fit the bill but you need to consider the surface for wallpapering in the future.
Can the existing marks/imperfections not be sanded down, filled in as necessary - or lining paper used and painted over?0 -

Similar - Like a thick paint coat, we've tried to level the wall out but because the rooms large and very light even the smallest mark is really obvious. We did try lining and paint but the joins seemed to come through as bad as the marks :mad:0
