I used my m&s credit card today, it wasnt chip and pin so handed over my card and signed for the purchase. When walking away i realised i didnt have my card. id left my bag and purse with OH so it def wasnt in my bag. I went back in but they said i hadnt left it, i looked on the floor but couldnt see i dropped it anywhere. i left my phone number incase they found it and called to cancel the card. i phoned and explain the situation, the guy confirmed the card hadnt been used so wouldnt need to be cancelled. i explained again i didnt have the card so he asked if i wanted another with the same number! i said no i would like it cancelled and a new card sent. he said he would do that but im worried. its a rubbish end to a not so great weekend. What if the old card is found, if its cancelled its useless right?

Yes, once you report your card lost/stolen it becomes placed on a 'Hot Card File.' If someone attempted to then use it the PDQ terminal would recognise this and usually the cashier is asked to retain the card.0

as long and you phoned the card issuer and cancelled it you cant be held liable for any transactions after..0

Also in that period of time between noticing the loss and reporting your card missing it is highly unlikely you'd be held liable for a fraudulent transaction. Unlike if someone had used your card with its PIN in this window of opportunity.0 -
Yes make sure they order you a new card and not a replacement, even if they ordered you a replacement card, most card issuers de-activate the other one as it will have different CVC verification details in the chip and mag stripe.0
