in Cutting tax
Just wondering if anyone can offer me any advice...
I have been working for the same company for nearly two years, have always had no problems with tax, recently received my P60 for 10/11 and subsequently April's payslip with my new tax code on... 747Lcum fyi.
Received May's payslip with Tax code: BR... this is emergency tax is it not?
Please for the love of god tell me I can get this rectified without having to wait till the end of the tax year?
Is this something my employer can deal with as I'm assuming it's their balls up, or do I have to go through HMRC?
Thanks in advance x

No it's not. It's the code normally used for those with a 2nd job or 2nd income source. Do you have more than one income source or job? Please for the love of god tell me I can get this rectified without having to wait till the end of the tax year?
No the sooner you get it sorted the better. Is this something my employer can deal with as I'm assuming it's their balls up, or do I have to go through HMRC?
Your employer will use the code that HMRC gives them so probably best to contact them.0 -
No BR is not the emergency code.
It is basic rate and is normally applied if you have another source of income against which your tax allowance is used.
Ask your employer in the first instance why they have applied the BR code.
If they say that HMRC told them to use it then call your tax office (info on your P60) and speak to them.
If a mistake has been made it should be rectified without delay.0 -
Exactly as NOH says0

Thank you very much everyone! My mistake with BR - I'd searched online and it had come up with emergency tax, glad to have had that clarified
Will get on to payroll ASAP and report back with my findings x0
