    I recommend places like jumble sales and car boot sales, can be a lot cheaper than charity shops, and you could pick up a few things that might seem a bit over indulgent if bought new on a small income. E.g. candles! I have no idea if you would have a use for candles, but I used to look out for candles and incense. We've bought quite a few things at jumble sales over the years, often for 10p and 20p. Some of them, like tea towels, brand new.

    If you want the good stuff from a charity shop, then a good thing to do would be to volunteer, even if just for a couple of mornings or afternoons a week. And you get to drink their coffee/tea and stay warm while you are there.
