Laptop and router

My D.D has been given a laptop (oldstyle) from her grandad ,we have a p.c (obvious! I'm writing on it now!) Technical side of things tend to mash my head what do I need for this laptop to work in tne house? Thanks for any advice but please can I have it easy computer talk .Regards Sue

    revealing the make and model number of the laptop would be a good start for garnering advice. The information is usually printed on the underside of the machine.

    Do you want to connect this laptop wirelessly? It would also help to provide the make and model of the router that your PC is connected to.

    Network cable if it has a network port and wirelessly if you have a wireless router and if the laptop has a wireless card.

    Thank-you for you help whoops I knew details would be necessary : it's a compaq and the only info I can decipher on the underneath is 2CA7030VHW and we have a TALKTALK router for the p.c. H.T.H
