I am again in the car buying market after years of buying rubbish cars because I know very little about them. This time I have taken out a loan and have 6K to spend but I need to get it right! I have had a Fiat Multipla and whilst the build quality isn't great (!) I do love the space. I am looking for another MPV but have decided not to go for a really huge shed, so into a new world of 'compact MPV's'.

Any knowledge or opinions on the Toyota Verso then? I have looked at all makes models and the tick boxes I am most after checking are reliability/maintainance costs, fuel economy and practicality.

Thank you :A

Well I had one for 5 years and it was brilliant.

I only changed because it was getting too small for an expanding family.

Once the pram and other paraphernalia go, I'll go back to one. It's a damned site better car than the one I replaced it with (even though this is a bigger car with more "toys"). If only I had a time machine (car wise only) ...

Give me Toyota any day of the week now.

I have a couple of friends that have/had them and they really like(d) them.

I have had an Avensis diesel for 4 + years and to date can't fault it on reliability or running costs. Very well built.

My wife had a Picasso for 8 years (2.0HDI) an that was pretty good too although it did have a fuel pump problem. A friend has the more modern style (C4)and he is happy with that too.

Another friend of mine who has his own garage business rates Toyotas very highly.

Could I ask what kind of Mileage you've covered with the Avensis over the 4 years?.. Would this be the D4-D?

I've been out recently looking at newish Hiluxs and te GF's currently inbetween cars after selling her e46 BMW. She Likes the C5 VTR as an HDI Estate and after being in Toyota and seeing a spec'd up Avensis quites likes these aswell circa 2008/2009ish.

Sorry, Verso is just to strange looking for me.

Thought about a C Max or Touran, both are likely to have decent reliability. The fact you can get a 3 yr old C Max may help steer you towards tge Ford.

Verso seems overpriced and i don't really believe that Jap cars are that much better than a Ford or VW.

This is after having a mega mile mk3 mondeo for nigh on 3 years.

It was a company car to start with and covered about 15k a year and has now hit around 45K. So not massive milage but it just feels good if you know what I mean, there is absolutely nothing that gives any cause for concern.

In the family we have had two Citroens and whilst both were OK cars (140k/80K), engine wise, and you got a lot of bits for your money, they were not as good IMO.

Certainly the D2D is a much smoother engine than the 2.0HDI and more economical.

I've been thinking about a second hand Verso. I can get a two year old one at trade? about £8,500. They've done circa 60,000 with FSH (diesels) I only do around 6,000 a year - should I go for it?

£8500, seems a lot of money fir a supermini with a snails house bolted to the back.

I would rather have an ex Motability with 15k on the clock at three years old for a couple of grand less.

Your miney at the end of the day.

Funnily enough my current car is an ex Motability I bought at BCA three years ago. A year old Peugoet 307 -5,000 miles on the clock cost £6,500 It's been a great little car.
