carpet door bar

Hello

I had a new carpet fitted on my stairs and upstairs landing on Friday. I was at work whilst the carpet fitter did the fitting, and he had left by the time I got home.

The carpet looks fine. We didn't previously have door bars in the rooms upstairs, so the fitter put new ones in. Strangely, the door bars have been fitted in different positions at the door ways. There are four rooms upstairs. Two rooms have the door bars underneath the closed door. The other two rooms, the bars are in front of the closed door (visible from the landing when door is closed). I've not spoken to the carpet fitter about this (I'm going to ring tomorrow). I would want the door bars to be underneath the closed doors.

Is there any reason he has not done it that way for two out of four door ways? Is it possible to fix if he had made a stupid mistake? Is it my right to insist the door bars are underneath the closed doors?

Many thanks for any thoughts/help.

    Sounds like two carpet fitters...

one fitter, and it's not even a case of he did part of it one day and came back another day to finish off. I just wondered if there was any reason for it to have been done that way, and what my position is to insist he fixes it because it looks weird to me.

Edit: actually, did you mean there were two fitters instead of just one as I thought? You're right, I wasn't home, I thought it was one fitter but perhaps he had a mate with him. hmm. not an excuse though!

The threshold strips should be under the doors.
I wonder if the fitter ,having started laying, found that he had not left enough edge on the carpet to bring it properly into place under the two doors.
I would ask for a refit.

thanks tony. The carpet fitter came round this evening and has agreed to refit the carpet. He said he didnt think the door would close if he had put the door bars below the doors. Even he probably knew that is a weak excuse! Anyhow, he is refitting, and I'll be watching!

Pleased that you got it sorted . It is quite common to have to shave a bit off the bottom of a door following the fitting of new carpets. Better to do this than to have unsightly threshold strips showing.
