Faulty electric meter
A friend told me that her supplier wrote to her to tell him he was £1200 in credit and would he like a cheque or to keep it on account and reduce his monthly payment. He rang and asked for a cheque. They then asked him for a meter reading so the overpayment would be accurate and then queried it as it was the same as 12 months ago. Short story is that meter isn't working and hasn't moved since last read.
Utility supplier now claiming meter has been damaged- implying friend has done so even though they have been with them for over 10 years with no issue.
Friend is expecting an estimated bill based on previous years usage but they are making noises about charging for a new meter.
Can they do this?
