Sims 2 wont work anymore

Hi,
need a bit of help plz, my sims 2 has stopped working for some reason. i get "unable to authenticate original disc within time limit" message. its driving me nuts wondering whats wrong. it is the original disc, i`ve played it for a long time and just cannot understand why its suddenly stopped working.
does anyone know whats happened ???

Dirty disc, optical drive on it's way out, or the disc controller has dropped back to PIO mode for some reason.

cleaned the disc, c drive knows its in there, its not PIO its optimum the one it should be, so i am at a loss

sorry its ultimate DMA mode 5, so still dont know what has happened .

Is this to install it, or just to play it?

You could always get a No CD crack, this is generally what they are used for.

Try this;

1: Right click my computer, properties.
2: [Click] on advanced system settings
3: Go to Advanced, Performance click on [settings]
4:Click on [Data Execution Prevention]
5: Add your application (Sims2.exe ???)and apply.
