Does anyone use any sort of advertising to advertise their ebay items?? I basically bought one of them darn tickle me elmo's and because we are a bit hard up at the moment wanted to sell it to make an extra fiver or so to get my kids something extra for xmas! Obviously the more I can get for it the better, don't have a go at me about the rights and wrongs of doing this please as I didnt take the mick, bought one for them all to keep and one to sell....
Anyway, I was reading in wikipedia (here) that the edition that I got is one of the rarer ones but no matter what I write my listing is lost in the pages of millions of Elmo's that there is for sale....! All claiming to be limited edition etc....
So I wanna scream from the roof-tops to tell everyone to buy MINE! MINE! MINE!! just wanna tell em all to ignore all the other Elmo's on there and just bid on mine - lol - but obviously apart from the neighbours thinking I am a loon I don't think I would gain much from shouting from the rooftops!
Has anyone else done anything else 'outside' of ebay to advertise their item? I dont want to do anything annoying like spam but just want to give my ickle Elmo a better chance of being spotted by someone who really really wants one LOL!!
Any ideas appreciated!!
p.s. the auction link is... www.ebay.co.uk/lotsandlotsofELMOS!.html - only kidding by the way
(its not even a real link!)

There isn't any real way of advertising ebay auctions as ebay gets more hits than many other sites anyway. There used to be an alt group for ebay adverts, can't seem to find it anymore but basically it was a waste as people only used it to advertise auctions they didn't stay and read anything so it served no real use.
I followed the Elmo thread with interest but never did dip my toe in the water as there never seemed to be a scarcity of them at all. I think unless people are looking for a particular box, then they're more likely to be buying them at Tesco where they are discounted.

Thanks Soo!
I can't see anywhere that currently has them for sale, everywhere seems out of stock which is why I thought to put it on ebay now the stocks have run out - most places won't be getting stock until Jan 2007!
Hmmm - I just had an idea!!What about 'trying' to create a bit of media hype?? hee hee!

Rachie, they had 2 shelf loads in my local Tesco yesterday and they keep popping back up on Amazon as well.

They are still selling on ebay, so you will probably recover your costs even after paying all the fees and paypal charges. Most seem to be going between £30-£40.
Just watch your fees though, listing, FVFs and paypal charges are going to be very high so it might be worth letting it go rather than risk having to relist after Christmas.
Good luck
