Lost Money!!

Options
Hiya,

I'm new here after using the website for the past year...but could really do with some help after learning some valuable life lessons this weekend...

I lost my bank card late on Friday night whilst on a night out. I cancelled my card as soon as I woke up on Saturday morning. However, I have noticed my card had been used whilst I was at home, making me think it had been stolen after I used it at a bank machine!!

Now, I understand I will never see that money again, but I would like to know what to do now, and whether it is worth me notifying my branch? And also, if there are any ways I could try make some money to cover my losses to fit around my job and studies, I would be grateful :)

Report it to your bank. They should refund you.

Was there anything suspicious about the cashpoint machine?
It could have been tampered with - so yes claim against the bank for the stolen money.

And by this we should add: NOW. Don't worry about going to a branch, call your bank NOW. The branch may well refer you to the telephone anyway, and the longer you leave it the more vulnerable you are.

They will, most likely, refund you.

If you contact your bank and they decide that you have been negligent you might be held fully liable but it's best to let them know just in case. Leaving it till the next morning wasn't a good idea, although i understand that you might not have known your card was missing ! The terms and conditions of your account will probably say that you must notify them as soon as possible once your card is lost or stolen, not reporting it straight away will probably be classed as negligence. They might refund you but be prepared to be re debited again once they've made their decision, did the bank not question the cash withdrawals when you called to stop your card ?
