Who gave you the same advice as I. But used more words in doing so.

Really? They said exactly the same?
I retract the advice about reading a book.
  • I have been with fd almost since there inception, and carried the banner for them, but no longer. I had a phone call from an impeccable mannered young lady who explained my overdraft facility runs out in September, and that they wanted to means test me !! First time ever .... Why ? Firstly I have gained a black mark on my credit rating - thank you Vodafone, I don't owe you the money and I won't be blackmailed, secondly - I went over my overdraft limit, ticked off with myself, I deposited £2,400 in the account, and zeroed it, thirdly, I stopped paying my wages into my aforementioned sole account because we are having a lot of work done at home, and have had them paid into our fd joint account, which is in credit, always has been with plenty in reserve. So why do they want to go through my expenditure ? The young lady then went on to explain because I am a director of a company, they wanted to see said companies last three years accounts - well that was just one step to far - bye bye my beloved First Direct, and I'm one of the lucky ones, I can afford to do it, as can my company who also banks with HSBC

Well there you go, you've answered your own questions really haven't you...

    > You stopped paying your salary in to your account
    > You breached the T&C of the account by going over your OD limit
    > You now have adverse data on your credit file (If this is incorrect, that's Vodafone to blame, not FD)

Small wonder they want to means test you.

Sammyuk, If you have an account with an overdraft and stop paying into that account, it's natural that your bank will want to ask questions about whats happening. Plus if you're self employed, without your net profit figures, how can you establish what your income is ? In addition to this, you say you have info on your credit file from Vodafone, several alarm bells would have rung at your bank which is probably why they decided to do what they did.

I fly the flag for FD very high and while never had major issues they have always resolved simple without any hassle.

I have to admit they seem to be treating the OP unfairly but I guess that are noticing areas of concern and acting quickly to minimise their risk... i.e. getting their money back or formally agreed to be repaid. It is sad they aren't offering a more balanced approach...

In regards to sammyuk... while you may be secure you have to admit your behaviour, including hitting an unauthorised overdraft, suggests you aren't.

    Hi sammyuk,

As you've raised concerns over information recorded against your credit file by us together with concerns over the balance which the information relates to I'd be happy to take a closer look at things for you.

To enable me to do this could you email me via the contact details in our profile page here and mark the email for my attention?

Once you're in touch please be assured that I'll do my best to assist you as much as possible.

    Kind regards,
