Havent moved into house yet. Would like to sign up to Plusnet, who charge £50 for the privilege of signing up with them (ok, connection charge then). However, phone wire on this house comes through window & the OLD BT (oval shape connector box which was located on window reveal) has fallen off the wire. I still have the old BT box. However I dont want Plusnet to come to connect & then they say NO WE'RE NOT DOING THAT.....Get onto BT.....I'll end up in a right mess & additional expense.
Can anyone please throw any advice my way on this? Dont know if to connect this box up wrongly & attach back to wall, or leave it as is??? or what to do ???

will be an openreach (BT) person who does the fitting as their agent
they would replace the old box with an NTE boxEx forum ambassador

Thanks for the quick response. Do you think I should try to re-attach the 'oval box', or just leave it disconnected please?0

I'd contact who ever you are going/have your phonline with & ask then for a Engineer visit.Problem is with the old style BT Coffin Box is the wiring colors can often be confusing as wayy back when these were fitted, the wasn't a standard color code in use like the is today.I've seen me at a home or two for a good few hours toneing out the wiring to find which wire goes where!0

If Plusnet are charging you a £50 connection charge (for phone or broadband?), then that implies that the line has been disconnected. In which case the reconnection charge will include fitting a new NTE5, or whatever other work is necessary. PN's normal connection charge for broadband alone is £25, what precise work have you been quoted £50 for?
Is the line currently active? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'll be taking out phone & broadband with them on a contract. Apparantly they always charge £50 for connection? No idea why? But apparantly an engineer does come out to the house. Current line been out of use for quite some months? Not sure how long0

So they'll refit an NTE5 as part of the reconnection job.
OR don't automatically visit the property, but they ask you to be available on the day in case they need access to resolve any faults-obviously in this case (if you are ordering a reconnection) you'll need to advise them that the master needs refixing, and provide access. No free lunch, and no free laptop
