IE8 not connecting to broadband

Hello, hope someone can help me please.

I have had IE6 but downloaded IE8 this morning. Download went well but I could not connect to my broadband. My email would not connect either.

Uninstalled IE8 and back to IE6 and everything was back to normal!

Is there something I should have done to make IE8 connect to my broadband.

I have XP.

Many thanks.

Are you using a third party firewall

    router?

what are the connection settings in IE, tools, internet options, connections, and lan settings?

    post a hijackthis log

Had never heard of CA AV (it's not sold in the UK?).
IE6 is incredibly out of date (IE7 was released 5 years ago), are you up to date on your Windows Updates-on XP SP3?

automatically detect usually results in a slow IE startup, AV with firewall?

I suggest downloading firefox, check you can get online, post a hijackthis log, and redoing the update

Past experience of that AV wasn't favourable.

Remove the check mark from "Automatically Detect", apply and exit.
