Very high chance you've a fraud marker on your credit history, probably from when you reported your ex using your cards to run up debts etc.

You need to stop applying for full accounts.

I.e. Halifax - don't apply for a Current Aco!!!!, apply for an Easycash account
Natwest - don't apply for a Current Plus account, apply for a Step account
Lloyds TSB - don't apply for a Vantage account, apply for a Cash Card account

No bank will accept someone with a bad credit history for a FULL account but they will for a BASIC account so long as there aren't fraud markers on your credit file and your history isn't AWFUL (i.e if you're bankrupt, or have loads of defaults and CCJs).

Which account did you apply for with the Co-Op?
    Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

With the co-op i applied for a cash minder account. I haven't been applying for full account... just the very basic ones. I have managed to open a savings account with Leeds Building Socitey today... Doesn't have a cash card or anything, i will have to go into the branch to withdraw money but i'm able to have my wages paid into it so it's a good start :)

How does your employer know who's name an account is in if you give him a sort code and account number?

You are not an undischarged bankrupt, are you? Possibly without knowing or remembering you have signed some bankruptcy documents less than a year ago ?
