Acer laptop help

My acer travelmate 4200 will run OK for so long then grind to a halt sometimes when I 1st turn it on it will run for about 2/3 minutes and then really slow down and almost stop turn off and on and then it does the same again, sometimes you can use it for 20 mins really confused, gratefull for any help although i am not very technical on these type of matters.

    Overheating? Any error messages? What OS are you running? You really need to give a bit more info-what exactly do you mean by 'grind to a halt'?

    Heatsink and fan blocked with fluff. Let me guess, home use and 12-18 months old or 6-12 months if you smoke?

    Yes home use almost 3 years non smoker though, if the fan is blocked is this easy to sort out I am not very technical would I need to take it to a repair shop thanks for your reply.

    No, it's usually an easy job to do yourself, consult the manual for the way to access the heatsink/fan assembly. Once accessed ,you simply need to use tweezers etc to pull the gunk out.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
