Looking for a 13-14" Laptop
Comments
-
There is really no need for your lengthy replies.
The post of yours to which I linked was from the Sub-£350 powerful laptops discussion...
You then go on to post:The cheapest I can find is:
Sony Vaio VPCEA3M1E/B.CEK 14" - £550 (various colours)
Intel® Core™ i3-370M Processor - as discussed above
But I've heard Sonys are rubbish, Vaio in particular, especially the lower range models?
Rubbish battery life and very low reliability?
Toshiba Satellite R630-156 13.3" - £600
Intel® Core™ i3-380M processor
Likely to be more reliable than the Sony above?
Sony Vaio VPCCA1S1E 14" - £650 (various colours)
Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor
Better than the Toshiba above?
worth the extra £100 in comparison to Sony above?
If I wanted to go all out and get this (for heavy use, long life and reliability):
Sony Vaio VPCSB1X9E/s 13.3" - £900
Would I be getting a lot (enough for my money)?
Would I be better off spending that kind of money on a Mac?
I get the feeling no one is going to be fighting to reply to this post! Hope someone can help though...
You mentioned that you did not want a Mac, so why....?
Next, you quote only basic usage;General web browsing, emails, pics, youtube, movies, etc
So why all cogitation over i5 processors and the like?? Isn't that "throwing money down the drain" if you are purchasing products for which you have no need?
Next is the continual "buying it today" claims....
Shall I go on....?0 -

I posted in sub-£350 forum because all the 15" laptops I was looking at were within that price range. I mentioned that I was also considering the smaller size, which are almost always £350+. So I stuck it in there.. no harm. In any case, I created my own thread partly for that reason
Once again, you mis-quote me, by leaving out the very important starting sentence of my paragraph:The other problem I am having is that I think 15.6" may be too big for me. And as I mentioned earlier, the netbooks are a no go and too small anyway. So, if it wasnt a matter of price, I would definitely get the medium 13"-14" types.
It was an aside to my original post.
Because this is a personal preference. But if there is a general consensus that a £900 is far better than a different brand at that price range, I would like to know, as it may well affect my decision. You mentioned that you did not want a Mac, so why....?
I am seeking information, I don't see what the harm is...
Because, I am completely new to this and am none the wiser. All I am trying to do, is find as much as I can out, to make an informed decision. Why that seems to bother you so much, I just dont know.So why all cogitation over i5 processors and the like?? Isn't that "throwing money down the drain" if you are purchasing products for which you have no need?
Because I did want to buy it by the end of the day. Because there was an offer ending that day at currys. When I hadnt decided and the offer expired I had a little more flexibility. I actually will be buying either today or tomorrow, and will have to probably pay extra for next day delivery if I get it from saveonlaptops.co.uk or actually pick it up if thats an option from another retailer, because I really have no more time.Next is the continual "buying it today" claims....
I really wish we could just go back to the issue at hand...0 -
Just hurry up and buy a laptop! Grow some balls and live up to your name, spend!
You may be better delegating this purchase to your sister. Women are genetically superior at spending money, especially if it is not theirs.0 -
So, I think I have finally reduced my list of options and I think its now safe to say, that if I got any of these I would be very happy, which is a good feeling!
Samsung Q330 13.3" - £450
Toshiba Satellite Pro L630-156 13.3" - £580
Samsung SF310 13.3" - £550
So any opinions on these, or new suggestions welcome.0 -

haha so true! Maybe I should just give her the list and let her spend to her hearts content0 -
Here look...; Acer Timeline X 4820T £399
Same but shop return £337
You can buy the extended warranty including accidental damage from Markbargain's post for £32.
Otherwise, a Toshiba and take their extended warranty.
Of course if you spend more you may get more function, but what function do you actually need?
You need a bog standard laptop with a smaller screen. Why the drama?0 -
If you like Sony, how about this shop return Sony Vaio CW2S1E/P.CEK for £391. It's Pink.

Thanks for your comments..
What/where is Markbargain's post?
Micro Anvika are offering warranty with the Toshiba for 3 years is only £50 (apparently discounted from £150) which seems pretty good actually
I'd prefer just to get a new one rather than shop return/refurb. So between that acer and the samsung q330, I think I would go with the q330. Apparently acer build quality isnt what it used to be and that q330 has had some excellent reviews.
Only reason I would take toshiba, is if I really feel I need that size and portability, but at £130 premium, I dont think I will. Although I do think the toshiba will be better quality/more reliable.
I will factor in extended warranty and/or collection delivery to decide.
Guess the SF310 is out of the running. As you have rightly said, its an extra £100 for a better processor that I dont actually need. And it may be £30 cheaper than the toshiba, with a better processor- but if I go for the toshiba, it wont just be tech spec I am after.0 -

I really wanted a sony when I looked online, but after seeing them in the shops today, they are quite big and bulky compared to the others, which defies the purpose and reason I stopped mentioning them after my original post.. The more expensive ones are quite sleek though £800+ so no thanks
But thanks again0 -
I like Samsung too, but their extended warranties are quite expensive.
You are mistaken. The 3 year Toshiba International warranty including Pick-up & Return is £48 + VAT anyway. You can buy it direct from Toshiba. The £144 + VAT warranty is their repair on-site warranty.
So, now you've made a decision.
Enjoy the Samsung. 0
