Hi
Looking to move and rent a new property. I am disabled and finding stairs increasingly difficult so looking at bungalows etc.
A lot of the properties state no DSS, I am on DLA ane various other benefits including housing benefit. Does the no DSS mean I cannot apply for these or is DLA looked at differently.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks Sue

DLA is not included, as it's a disability benefit, but DSS means housing benefit, so you probably wouldn't get accepted in a property advertising as no DSS.
(Or at least that's how I understand it)0 -

I agree, the LL does not wish to let to people on means tested benefits. However they may still accept you if you can provide a guarantor, or if you can provide a large deposit/ rent in advance?Gone ... or have I?0 -
I believe that some landlords cannot accept people on HB because of the insurance they have.0

I am a joint landlord for property and we say no DSS as our agent said that in better areas that was the norm. However we did once get someone apply that said they could offer a guarantor so we said OK, but after they mucked us around for weeks and the guarantor was looking increasingly unhappy with the situation once they realised that they would be fully liable if for any reason the housing benefit and other benefits stopped they pulled out.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Unfortunately, because of the way housing benefit works, there is no guarantee when it will be paid or if it will be cancelled for any reason - say you lose your JSA for whatever reason, failed to sign on, didn't comply with your agreement then HB is automatically cancelled. Likewise for ESA.
Just like when someone loses their job really, no?Gone ... or have I?0
