Flat Screen installation

I need a flat screen tv installed in my house as I can't do it myself and live alone - bit rubbish with this kind of thing. I live in Nottingham if this helps. I called thetechguys.com and they quoted me £139 for the whole thing to install it - connections etc. Does that sound like a good deal to anyone? I can't really face trawling through loads of different companies.
Thanks

Depends!
If the TV costs over 1.3K+ then i think it seems fair enough, i mean, if you are not too handy, you are paying someone else to take the responsibility to ensure that it is fitted correctly.
On TV's below 1K,i would be a bit dubious about spending more than 10% of the TV's cost to get someone to fit it and would want to pay a little less.
Really you are paying for piece of mind and sometimes that costs.

Hi thanks for the opinion. Seems like quite a good thing to follow that 10% thing. Mine cost £1200 so I had the tech guys install it anyway at £139 and was very happy with their service all in all. I guess I've got peace of mind they seemed pretty professional to me all in all.
Thanks again0 -
What do you mean by install?
Are you putting the TV on a stand or are you hanging it on the wall or on a bracket.
Setting up a flat screen TV on a suitable stand or table is quite easy. There is little more involved than connecting all the cables properly. Do you have a knowledgeable pal who would help you for the price of a few beers. £139 buys a lot of beer.
Wall hanging is different and would maybe justify £139.0 -
It was a wall mounting job - I don't really move in circles where I know people who know about this kind of thing. Its a bit annoying really.
But yeah it was wall mounted so maybe I did get quite a good deal at the end of the day. Its still on the wall afterall...........0 -
Anybody had experience of hanging one from the ceiling as per shop display ?0

I've wall mounted one, and it was the cost of the bracket that shocked me the most! Fitting was OK (easy if you're into DIY), but you definitely need two people to do it properly (last thing you want is the TV falling on the floor!).
Price seems fair for a professional installation as I assume that includes setting it up (takes ages to do this if you don't know what you're doing!).0 -
£139 sounds a bit expensive to me but, if it includes the cost of brackets, cables etc and two men to do the work, and they do a good job that you are happy with, it is probably OK. How will the cables be hidden or will they be visible?
Better to pay £139 for a good guaranteed job than £50 for a bodger.:D
Don’t install it too high up the wall as it is then a strain to watch. Ignore the fancy pictures in brochures of screens above fireplaces etc.
I recommend you install it at about eye level or below when you are seated normally. This is the same height it would be on a stand, just a few feet off the floor.
Good luck and enjoy it.:D0 -

Yes they set everything up - Sky box, DVD etc. They even asked if I wished to have my computer running through it as well if I wanted. I said no but it was good of them to ask.
Still on the wall.0
