More Than Car Insurance

Can anyone help, my car was broken into last night and vandalised. My Radio/CD player was ripped out and damaged, this was recovered by the police on the scene. I contacted my insurance to make a claim and was advised that because my Radio/CD player was not the factory fitted standard Radio it is not covered, but on my policy I am covered for standard Audio Visual Cover. Can anyone explain why this is so

I'd be very surprised if it wasn't covered in your policy - check the details.
Failing that, can you claim on house insurance?...0 -
Had a quick look at the Morethan policy. Does not mention that they have to be factory fitted, but they have to be something that can be used in the car as an accessory.
It is possible your call was answered by someone who does not deal with claims or not properly trained. Give them a call again.
Have a think about whether it is worth claiming. Is there an excess to pay and what is the cost in terms of any lost no claims discount, plus likely increase in premiums over a few years. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Is all their policy booklet says, doesn't specify it has to be the manafacturers standard equipment. I'd get back on the phone and ask where the clause is that it has to be standard equipment, if they cannot come back stating where this is they cannot really reject the claim as you've met the criteria as per the policy booklet, the equipment is permanently fitted to the vehicle and can only be used in the car.PAGE 5 - http://www.morethan.com/Process/Documents/motorpoli.pdf
"If your car’s accessories or spare parts (including audio, telephone, visual navigation equipment, or visualentertainment
equipment, including televisions, video cassette recorders or players, DVD players and games
consoles, which are permanently fitted or can only be used in your car) are accidentally damaged while they are:
• in or on your car; or
• in your garage when it is locked;
we will repair the damage unless the repair cost is more than the market value of the damaged equipment. If it
is more we will arrange replacement equipment of similar quality and value.
SECTION 1 – PART A
LOSS OR DAMAGE TO YOUR CAR
If they are stolen in these circumstances and not recovered, we will replace them with similar equipment of the
same quality and market value.
The cover provided for audio, telephone or visual-entertainment equipment (including televisions, video cassette
recorders or players, DVD players and games consoles), which are permanently fitted or can only be used in your
car, and visual navigation equipment, is limited to the amount shown in the schedule under Audio/Visual Cover."0 -
which are permanently fitted or can only be used in your car
That might be the sentence they refer to; the stereo won't be permanently fitted or only usable in that car.0 -
Car stereo thefts, that takes me back0

was advised that because my Radio/CD player was not the factory fitted standard Radio it is not covered,
Because they are classing it as a modification that they were not told about
petty........... yes
can you argue ............. doubt it
did you change the radio/cd or was it in the car when you bought it ?0 -
