Storage containers

Anyone know where I can get some good storage containers similar to this?

http://www.petsathome.com/shop/cat-food-storage-container-%28holds-4kg%29-by-contico-25856

Just bought 2 x 4kg bags for my cats (different types) as much cheaper than the 2kg ones I usually buy (and had a £10 off voucher with them) but they won't fit into my usual containers.

However, spending around £20 on containers  isn't an option!

Thanks

i bought a huge food storage container for dog food I think it was from Wilkinsons and was about £4, think it was from the kitchen rather than animal sections

Oh.. sorry - I actually got those, they are brillinat :D

    26702.jpg

Ordered one, got 2 as PAH messed up the order, called them and they told me to keep it :)
same with dog one - got 2 as well...

And same with masses of dry cat food... got 2 lots, paid for one.

As this was their fault, they told me to keep the doubles.... - it was around Christmas.... nice pressie it was :)
  • Gettingready that's a fantastic deal - and both times! Wow - now, if I could guarantee that, I'd order them!!!!

Happy thanks for that - unfortunately nearest store is 50 miles:( and by the time I added the delivery charge not any cheaper than the ones at PAH.

Oh, the joys of living in the countryside!

Someone suggested a bin on another thread but these aren't air tight so don't think that would keep the food fresh.

It's funny as I've got a huge one that takes a 15kg bag of dog food (bright pink but don't think he cares!) which I got free ages ago - wish I could find something similar for the cats!!

We use plastic bins bought from the supermarket for about a fiver for the dogs dried food - holds the 15kg perfectly - and you get smaller ones too.
Not as pretty but just as practical

    Lakeland have some I believe.

Having said that - we just decant a small amount of a huuuuuge food bag at a time into a cereal one for our dog and it's fine.
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • The PAH ones are looking better value by the minute!

Thanks Clootiesmum & Dizziblonde (that's what I do with my dog's food too), I'm just really anxious to make sure the lot that's left is sealed tightly - it's going to take them around 5 MONTHS to get through the bags and they're so fussy that they won't eat it if it's not at it's freshest (unlike Mr pooch who will eat practically anything).

Been trawling round and have found exactly the same one at Lake*land for £15.49 and an incredible £20 at Mr Ts (so much for "every little helps"!

Might have a wee trip up to £stretcher (only 10 miles if I go straight from work) as I know they have cheap tubs there - if not, think it may have to be the PAH ones (will be a raid on the £2 coin jar).

Oh - it was all on one order. I placed one massive one sometimes in December from what I remember. Then changed my mind about ONE item, called them to swap the said item, they told me to cancel the placed order and advised to re-order again which I did. All the same stuff apart from one item as took something else.

And they have delivered both orders so got everything twice :)

ONCE I was lucky, those were nto 2 orders but was a fantastic deal :)

Fyunny thing is I placed the original order online at 3 am (yeah AM) and called them at 9 to swap that one item.... and ... :)

Living in the countryside - do you have a freezer?
Perhaps you could dispense into the usual containers and freeze the rest - so that later you can just take out a little at a time : I wouldn't fill my usual container from the freezer, in case of moisture.
"OR (better yet) put the remainder of the food in zip lock bags in your freezer; remove them as needed (making sure to cut the barcode, batch code and expiration date off the original bag and tape it onto a storage bag)." Storing Kibble.

"One of the more economical ways to get food-grade plastic containers is to visit a local bakery or restaurant. They receive a lot of foodstuffs in these types of containers and are usually delighted to get rid of them. Keep in mind that not all HDPE (high density polyethylene) containers are food grade." Storage Tips.

Hill's website says: "The food will retain its best flavor if stored in the original bag".
I got on all right when I kept the surplus kibble in the original bag (all air squeezed out, and thoroughly sealed with wide packing tape) sealed inside another plastic bag - not a bin liner.
This is good advice - I only opened the bag to refill my normal container, and quickly sealed it again.

I now use whey protein jars - I prefer liquid food, so I have loads.
The container in your link is prettier - I am resisting it - I don't need it... I really don't... do I?

    :rotfl::rotfl:That's me!

Thanks for the links am going to have a good trawl through them all - I do have a freezer but one drawer if always taken up with the dog's frozen chicken/cabbage portions that I make him:o - never thought of freezing dry before!

However, problem solved, popped to £stretcher at lunchtime:
