Cumberland Building Society

Hi

The Cumberland BC current account are currently advertising "Free debit card and ATM use worldwide". Is this the best account to withdraw cash while abroad? Is it similar to what Nationwide once did?

Thanks

The terms and condition are detailed below, but how is the LOAD % calculated?

Using your Cumberland Visa debit card abroad
You can use your Cumberland Visa debit card to pay for goods or services, or to withdraw cash at a cash machine, wherever you see the Visa sign.
We will not charge you to do this but any charges associated with your business current account will still apply.
Please note that when you use your Cumberland Visa debit card abroad to pay for goods or services, or to withdraw cash at a cash machine, unless
you are offered and accept a currency conversion rate at the time, transactions will be converted into sterling at the exchange rate on the date they
are received by Visa in the UK. We do not charge you to use our Visa debit card and do not pass on any fees levied by Visa. The provider of an
ATM or retailer may apply a charge.

Do you live in their local area ?
If not you cannot open an account.

    There is no "Load %"

    from their account summary page

"So you can withdraw cash at ATMs and pay for goods in shops where you see the Visa sign anywhere in the world and we won't charge you or pass on any fees levied by Visa. The Cumberland does not charge you to use your Cumberland card but the provider of an ATM or retailer may apply a charge"
  • They are a good Building Society but why the restrict account opening I am not sure.

Because they are a mutual serving their local community - not freeloading scroungers from elsewhere, to put it (a bit over-)bluntly.

Yes one of the best for cash withdrawal in foreign currency abroad.
You will get Visa whole seller exchange rate, which is very difficult to beat.

You need to open one of their current account. The money management a/c need to be paid £200 a month (otherwise they will close your account). They then give you a Visa Debit card that you could use for cash withdrawal overseas.

I have one and I have been using it for quite sometimes when I travel abroad and get one of the best exchange rate.
