Microsoft Outlook Error

Before I went on holiday, I tried to transfer my Outlook Address Book Contacts from my desktop PC to my netbook via a memory stick. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to do this.

I've come back from holiday now, and everytime I open Outlook Express an error message comes up saying "The path specified for the file K:\Personal Folders(1).pst is not valid".

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong and how to get rid of this error message.

And if possible, how do I copy my Address Book from my desktop to my netbook?

Assuming it's Outlook and no Outlook Express (which is different)...

Somwhere in your folder list will be a folder called "personal folders" or "archive". Right click and disconnect and you should lose the start up error.

To transfer contacts, you have to export them, not archive them. Export them to a .pst file and save to the memory stick giving it a name of your choice but making sure the file extension is .pst

On your laptop, open Outlook and choose "File / Import/export" and follow the wizard.

Run the Scanpst.exe repair tool. Instructions here:

  • Thanks Pimento. I've searched for a folder called Personal or Archive and can't find anything. I know the date I tried to do the transfer and have tried searching for everything on that date, but nothing is coming up. I don't have a Personal folder in Windows, although I do in Microsoft Outlook.

Any other suggestions for how to resolve the problem?

You haven't said what version of Outlook but if it is 2007 then to expeort your contacts you go to FILE Import/Export, Export to a file, personal folder (.pst) and hit next. This will create a fiule that you can then import into Outllok on your other PC.

This also works on Outlook 2003 (as I said upthread)..
