I nipped into my local Co-op after work last night to get a few bits and pieces. I was mulling over the bread rolls - which to get etc when the assistant who was marking things up on the shelves told me that they had bags of rolls that had been reduced. She told me that the use by date was 3 June and that they were still alright to eat - she kindly took me to the area where they have the reduced food and showed me the Warburtons rolls along with other rolls that had been reduced.
She didnt have to tell me about the reduced price rolls and now I have a bag of them in the freezer and I managed to pick up some mini battenbergs from the reduced shelf too.
Result - what fab customer service.:j

I find the co-op are good with these things. It seems to be a general trend that if I buy something and miss that it's BOGOF or part of a bigger deal that they'll mention it, as well as they often mention if there's an offer that related. I was buying some coffee the other day and they sales assistant mentioned another brand was currently on BOGOF when I got to the till. As it happens I knew and just prefer the brand I chose, but it's good that they highlight the offers.0

Just to counter-balance this fawning adoration of the Co-Operative, has anyone else noticed that Britain's favourite mutual retailer is resorting to the same sleight of hand techniques that we have come to expect from the notorious old rogues of grocery retailing, tesco et al?
Co-op sells a range of its own-brand cakes.. ginger cake, date and walnut, etc.. They are quite nice and there aren't too many nasties in the ingredients list, which is unusual for the co-op which often sells chemical-laden junk.
I noticed a bold label on the cake package that read "NEW SIZE".. so i searched elsewhere on the package and found that weight was shown as 325 grams.
this got me curious, so i rummaged at the back of supermarket shelf and found an "OLD SIZE" package which weighed in at 350 grams.
Oh dear.. same price.. a colourful label announcing "NEW SIZE" .. and it's smaller!0 -

It didn't say 'new larger size' did it?
Many brands and own brands are doing the same as a way of not increasing actual prices.0 -
Just be glad you're not students at University of Kent - they only have a Co-op store there on campus, so it's the main shop for an enormous number of students and all the one's who start there and live on site. It is so over priced as to be unbelievable! The prices are the highest that I have seen in any small shop for years and years and I was utterly disgusted that a company such as the Co-op should so openly rip off students - who are getting into the most debt ever now as having to borrow money for course fees. Why they are doing this? They are meant to be an ethical company! Obviously they are defininately not!0
