Just had my car written off whilst I was in bed,,,
Someone ran into it and then knocked on my door to tell me.....
My question is what is my insurers legal obligations??..
Or in english,,How much cash are they legally obliged to offer me??..
Secondly I've just had a genuine tow bar fitted.. Can I claim for this as well (on top of the car's write-off offer)
thanks

I had my car written off by a lorry, because there was no finance owing on it I got a brand new car. I had to send the log book the invoice for the car and a copy of the white bit of my license to my own insurance and they paid the Ford Main Agent direct. If you owe money on it they have to settle that first and give you what is left.0

You need to read the policy booklet. I imagine (as is the case with all i have come across) they will pay you the current market value. IE How much they are selling for in your area. This will not include dealer mark up and profit.
The engineer should include the cost of the tow bar in the valuation0 -
It would be the lower of the market value and the value you insured it for.
When you purchased the insurance you will have been asked if you have had any modifications so the tow bar should have been included then and so will be included in the settlement. If you didnt declare it then there are other possible issues to deal withAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Hi
You are entitled to the lower market value of the vehicle. This does not though stop you arguine for more, say for low milage the car would be worth more and for added extras ie; if you had alloys plus the towbar. The thing is they will try and buy you off as cheaply as possible, don't let them, hold out for what it would cost you to replace.
Good Luck..0 -

As long as you remember that it is what it would cost you to replace by private sale and not garage forecourtAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
