Morning all...I'm in my own bed as I type this....and it's heaven...the boat itself was fine, very modern and clean, ......but the beds....omg...how uncomfortable were they?? 1 night was enough, could not face any more......picked up the boat, cruised for a couple of hours , moored, had a lovely meal, then tried to tune the telly, no signal, DVD player didn't work, neither did the radio or Cd player....read the Times on my iPad, then tried to sleep....very, very narrow bed with really soft edges, no support at all...stayed awake all night making sure I didn't fall off, ....returned the boat yesterday as could not face another sleepless night. This was a 5* star boat and the actual cost of this was £912 for 4 nights....I know I never paid 'cos it was a win, but even so , for that sort of money the beds should be better quality than that and the DVD player and radio and CD player should work...Agreed the telly depends on the signal strength, but surely at that price they ought to have satellite with a dish you can turn....good news though,I'll get a refund on the diesel not used...about £30 worth and just won a comp on the radio...won a load of CD's...at least I've got a CD player that works....0

Morning BS
good thing you didnt paid for it -how annoying would that have been. Hope you have lovely comfy day0 -
Morning all.
bullshot - how sad that your 5* canal boat was not all you expected. Obviously they have narrow beds, but they could at least be comfortable! I suppose if the weather is absolutely fantastic then you could "put up" with some of the problems, but no TV, radio, DVD would drive me mad. Is it worth a complaint to HO even though it was a win. Imagine how you would feel if you had paid for it.0 -

Not bothering to complain ( Asda mag win with UK Boat Hire, they organise the hire of boats from loads of boatyards) just be glad to get the £30 for the unused diesel , I know I didn't pay it , but don't see why I can't have the money:D...the peeps at the boatyard did not know it was a comp win and I did not tell them, they just checked there was nothing outstanding on the bill to pay when we arrived....girl at boatyard said she'll make sure I get the diesel refund, as she said , you've paid for it but not used it,:) but def no refund for the hire, which is absolutely fine, the boat is still moored there for us to use until Friday even if we don't want to move it......but just a shrug of the shoulders when I told her the audio/visual equipment did not work...I expected the bed to be narrow, I can sleep anywhere, but the very nature of the cheap quality of the mattress meant there was no support and the slightest movement meant you would fall off as the sides just collapsed:rotfl:I know 'cos I fell off the first time I got on it:rotfl:...I'm not a big person, 5'4" and not overweight, hubby is 6ft tall and not overweight , but he dare not move at all either..how anyone slightly overweight would manage I do not know.!!This holiday works out at over £200 per night excluding fuel...you can get 1 night at the Ritz fo £147....going to catch up with all the posts now....
I'm 6'1" and found the beds we had to be comfortable but we had a big boat - 66 footer. We went on the Grand Union through the Braunston Tunnel and stopped off at loads of lovely pubs :beer:If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -

I'm just catching up with posts as I've had a bad cold since Sun night with all the flu like symptoms:( I'm supposed to be in Blackpool today for 3 nights, but not well enough to go today. Hopefully I'll be well enough tomorrow, but no point in going when I can't enjoy it.Be thankful for what you have because it could all be taken away tomorrow.;)
