Scottish Power Massive Increase
I have been with Scottish power for a long time and have been on Capped Tariff since it was first introduced. My quarterly bill arrived and I was a little bit in credit. Imagine my Shock/Horror when i received a letter from Scottish Power saying my Direct Debit would have to increase to £60 they do not tell you what from but in my case it was from £38 almost a 100% increase. Now I am on a fixed income and watch my outgoings carefully hence the Capped Tariff so I spoke to Scottish Power who told me that it was all down to the Regulator balancing out prices nationwide and also an increase in standing charges and unit prices. Is this true? a £50 fine was mentioned if I changed Suppliers and a change to Online Saver 14 was recommended. I have signed up for that but I expect to be paying £50pm. I feel defeated as I thought I had taken what precautions I could and naively thought the Regulator was there to protect us.

You're new here, aren't you? Ah, your first post, you are, welcome.
Yes, that was naive of you - regulators are here to protect companies and the market and competition. If on occasion a consumer is helped then such consequences may slip through.
And if any consumers are protected it is only the wealthy and profligate average households that are targeted. Poorer households or households with a lower consumption are being universally savaged on all sides in all markets (not just with energy.)0 -
The price of electricity and gas have all gone up, if your previous capped deal has ended then they have offered you a new one taking into account these rises and increased the direct debit accordingly.0
