TalkTalk Essentials price reduction

Well, not much but every 49p helps. But is there something to be on the lookout for here, Greeks bearing gifts etc? When my plan comes up for renewal in August I shall be seeking to not commit for a further 18 months as there are moves afoot in my district that will dramatically improve BB speeds, but this will involve a change of ISP. Will I be penalised for going onto a rolling one month contract, and do I need to take active steps to prevent TT automatically doing it? I've already received an email saying they'll give me a short lived loyalty discount for renewing, and no doubt they'll be on the phone trying to persuade me to do so.From June, we’re reducing your call plan - It will be just £6.50 a month! Your TalkTalk Essentials call plan will be just £6.50 a month and we now offer the UK’s lowest priced landline to UK mobile calls with our Mobile Minutes Boosts, compared to BT, Plusnet, Virgin and Sky. But the savings don’t stop there, we’re always on the lookout for new ways to help you save, so watch this space...

Interesting. I'm with TT's "international anytime" package, had it for years as it provides free calls to international countries including France, which I need for the family. It's £12.60 line rental plus £11.91 for the package, which includes broadband (40GB data limit per month that I never get close to hitting). I've been happy with the service and broadband speed/reliability.
A fortnight ago TT called me to offer me a "loyalty offer" - x2 months half price on the package (so £5.96 per month) but the catch was that I had to commit to another x24 months with them. No chance, as I wanted some flexibility to explore alternatives such as Sky. Offer number 2 was x3 months half-price for a x18 months commitment. Again, no thanks.
A week later they called back. Same conversation, but I ended up with x6 months at half-price for a x12 months commitment. Fine by me, I don't mind committing for that period of time.
Moral of the story is - even if you are happy with TT, don't accept their first loyalty offer. They will give you more.0 -

You won't get penalised, you'll just go on paying the current price without any further discount. I've been on the "rolling" contract for the last 6 months or so, so I could have switched without penalty.
They've been trying to contact me about it, but never phoned when I was in, a pain because I did want to renew for a discount. Eventually I contacted them looking for a discount for a renewal, and having spoken to about half their staff trying to get through to the right place, negotiated half price for 6 months on a 12 month contract like the PP.
But I could have just stayed paying 6.50 a month. If you don't want to commit just ignore any calls from them.0
