Alarm telephone dialler - suitable w virgin cable phone lines?

Hello - looking to move from BT to Virgin cable telephone. There is a speech dialler present in the property, that dials a number everytime the alarm goes off.

Our alarm guy says that the speech dialler only works on BT lines as BT operate with 50V. And Virgin operate on 30V or 50V. He recommends getting a new speech dialler, if we move to Virgin.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? I would think that a phone line's voltage would not make a difference, as the phones would not need any changes, so why would the speech dialler?

Sounds like piffle to me. Handsets should work equally well on Virgin or BT exchange lines and they were originally spec'd for BT lines on 50V. I am not aware of special handsets for Virgin lines ...

There may be other issues which make it a good idea to change dialler, but lin voltage ain't it, I am sure

Phones should be tolerant to a wide variety of line voltage. Some old switchboards ran on 10 or 24 volts rather than 50 volts. However that doesn't mean that everything will accept a lower line voltage and you may indeed need a new dialler.

You can get diallers that work on the mobile phone networks if you find it difficult getting one that works on cable, or if the cable wiring is vulnerable to being cut.
