avoid npower

I thought I'd share a little experience with npower that I've had, hopefully this will ensure others will not have the same issues.

I transferred to npower from scottish power back in 2008.
I have what I think is a pretty normal gas and electricty usage.
The start was ok, it took scottish power the normal 6 months to reliase I had changed providers and redund the over payments I had made.
Then last year npower increased their direct debits payments from £100 to £165. Which was higher than I expected even with all the price increases. I made a complaint as apart from not being able to understand their bill, the meter readings were made up! the readings must have been guessed by the meter reader as no way could I used 10000 units of electric in a month! I'm not running a factory. The customer services department was clearly shocked at the usage and agreed to re-invoice back to the start of the bills (3 years). 6 weeks later I received a call advising that I was £250 in credit split between my gas and electric.
In the meantime I had decided to switch to e-on as they suggest that my usage is going to be between £70 and £100 per month.
I received a cheque from npower for my last bills for £71.63 and thought that was it. npower direct debts cancelled at the end of april. (as I had switched on the 10th april) and e-on DD started ok.
I've received now a final demand from npower saying I owe them £165 for gas and electric, even after receiving a cheque and the final bill. I've just spoken with npower and they are sending me another bill with a breakdown of payments.

Advice for others....AVOID NPOWER.

I don't understand the problem. (Why are you not also advocating an avoidance of Scottish Power in your subject.)

One mistaken reading was made. It was corrected, but has taken an iteration or two to iron out. The meters are in your home - you are in control of knowing how much you should be approximately paying.

The problem is that npower sent me a FINAL bill which stated they owed me money then sent a reminder to a bill they have not sent! The invoice shows a payment via dd but not any date that relates to it. Its a clairy of bill, which are confusing enough at the best of times. The did not say the money would be deducted still - and why would they not show a bill for £93.64 (£165-£71.36) instead of issuing a cheque....it makes no sense.
npower's customer services had also promissed compensation for the previous complaint where 3 years of billing and misreading of meters had to be recalculated which has not been shown.

This all comes down to the power companies not making their bills easy to understand and adding a clear statement of payments received on their bills.

    was a dd payment cancelled?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

There you go again - more talk from your backside. Yes a mistake was made but surely someone should have picked up that a usage of 10000KWH in a month is far too excessive. And why send out a final bill and then make a further demand? And yes - the meters are indeed in our homes, but energy companies have a duty to ensure that bills are sent out correctly. Ringing them to correct a bill is not an option when you consider that it's costing money being kept waiting for an excessive length of time. Also, when you do get through to speak to someone, either you are not believed when you give them a corrected reading, or you treated with total contempt. I speak from my own experience - on 1 occasion the meter reader transposed 2 digits (naturally to their advantage) and when I rang them up (took 20 mins wait), they would not believe that my reading was the correct one.

But as usual in your case, you always take their side. I think it's time for you to sign off this forum for good, as you're upsetting a lot of people with your constant verbal diarrhoea.

Yes the dd was cancelled after the first payment was taken by e-on. The bill from npower did not show payments made by dd in march or april and only the may's dd was refused by my bank.

According to their meter I used about 20 per week for electric and 10 for gas.

Between their corrected bill giving me a credit of 250 at the end of feb and when I changed providers on april 10th there is about 6 weeks. 6 x 30 = £180. this leaves me with £70 owed and I had paid a dd payment of £165 in both march and april.... this means they owe me £400!

:rotfl:It's inevitable really isn't it. after all, there were over 70 million pounds worth of known problems at the last count despite prolonged denials by these sharks ;)
