What baffled me was that anyone could seriously expect sustainded growth based on more of the old economic model i.e. borrowing to buy foreign built houses (thanks to East Europeans), TVs and carpets. Susustainable economic recovery will come from hard work and:
    • Teachers turning out students that can read and write
    • Universities turning out graduates with useful degrees
    • Big companies taking the trouble to civilise and train local recruits
    • Financial services not nabbing the brightest and best to churn and waste other people's money
    • Investment going into science and technology
There is no quick fix (and please note; for once I did not have a pop at the public sector)

I'm with you 100% on this!

I would also like to see companies delivering services in the UK made to deliver those services by a minimum of 75% onshore staff instead of offshoring the work and sucking the money out of our country. If these global countries want to use cheap labour in India say then they should win work in that country and use those staff to deliver the services there not to rape our own nation!

Ah yes, The white heat of the technological revolution. Which brought us the National Enterprise Board, the DeLorean car and the Sinclair pocket television.

    And Concorde. Total sale: 14.

Very narrow view there pdrdef - so Spectrum didn't sell millions of Spectrum 48k's etc? Rolls Royce don't have engines in 1000's of aircraft? BAE don't sell millions of pounds worth of weaponry globally? we have one of the strongest life science sectors in th world....yet you pick out a Delorean and a pocket TV for your argument......

    Well done!

There are no easy answers but a land tax would solve many problems and be a big step in the right direction. Unfortunately it seems to be ruled out by all three main political parties, who only think as far as the next election.

Ridiculous, no tax ever helped an economy get out of recession.

I'm expecting someone to suggest a window tax next. We would all be bricking them up before you know it :rotfl:

Stop paying out for what you don't actually need!
If only the government would turn the lights off and make a real difference.
