Bank Charges On Natwest Current Account

Hi,

Just wondered if i have anything to stand on with this...:

There was a transaction on my current account that was still pending on the 11th december, it was still highlighted on my online banking. The transaction was a paypal payment for 100.00GBP, and there was 99.23GBP in the account. So on the 11th december i went into the bank and paid 40.00GBP to take the balance of 139.23GBP, bearing in mind the paypal payment was still pending on the account. the cash payment that was paid in was cleared straight away, as the available balance was showing as 139.23GBP on the account.

A day later the paypal payment had disappeared from the account and a 'CHARGES' transaction was added dated 11th december, of 38.00GBP! What can i do about this as the available balance was there and the transaction had not yet cleared... yet they still charged me???

Bearing in mind this account does not have an overdraft... is there anything i can do??

Thanks.

If you take a look at your T&C's I think you'll find that funds have to be in the account the working day before (Friday 8th December in your case) a payment is scheduled to go out.

If it's your first 'offence', they may re-imburse you.

If it's not your first offence, or your bank are now digging their heels in, then you'll have to go down the reclaiming charges/small claims court route. See the board below this one.

If you're not too good with money management, or you don't read account T&C's, then a small overdraft might be a good idea.
  • yeah its first offence, the accounts been open 5/6 years and never been in the red... the only reason there was so little in was because they take so long to transfer money from my other account with them to that one! pfft i shall go and have a moan

Don't moan at them! Be polite and apologetic and you'll get further. You have to charm them ;)
