Ive lost my other thread about the above.

We've now taken delivery today with no instructions what soever.
The tree is about 12 inches tall.

We have a circle of soil in the garden, dont know whether to put it in there or in a pot in the same circle.

Can it stay there during winter, do we need to give it any special care........
Any advice is appreciated
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

This may be of help. http://www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/plants/plant_finder/plant_pages/519.shtml

Personally I'd get it in the ground and allow the root system to develop. In a pot it will be restricted and not grow to its full potential.

Should be, are you suffering, like us with no rain? If so plant with a piece of plastic pipe 9"ish, down beside the roots. If it gets very dry it'll be easy to water down the roots instead of the surface of the bed. You can cut a few slots into the pipe so the water gets out at different levels.
Take a drive around to see if other people have them in their garden, its always nice to see how others fare.

    Good idea there, thanks.

The bbc link says its better shade in the morning and sun later, guess what, where we want to put the tree is sun till lunchtime
and then shade for the rest of the day. May be will have to think of resiting it, what do you think

Good idea, any frost will gradually melt on the blooms instead of the sun scorching them.

I have had mine in a pot for about 3 years, planted it in the garden last year as i have moved to what i hope will be my last move. It has done very well but mine was a lot bigger when purchased. They are very happy in a pot as they are a smaller tree than a normal magnolia. They are very beautiful when in full flower in the spring.
