Does anybody have a link to a 'mugs guide' on the full procedure for importing a used vehicle from Germany to the UK.

I am now looking into this matter, but several sites give guides, some of which are several years old, hence my request for a more up to date link.

Topics including the following are of interest to me:

Registration information while in Germany
Temporary German numberplates for the journey home
Insurance cover for the journey *
Breakdown cover .. for the journey home
Entry into UK (probably at Newcastle, via Amsterdam)
UK road tax
UK registration
UK insurance

plus anything else that I don't yet know about.

thank you for any advice given

* I do not actually own a car at present so have no current insurance or breakdown cover .. I have a company vehicle

    Just go here:

Scroll down the page - used car bit is at the bottom.

    as said
main thing is insurance and the car must be eu compliant at time of entry or you will need single type approval or whatever they now call it
depending whether you are a temporary resident or intend living here permanently also makes registering the car and getting uk insurance and tax
also it will need a uk mot
its pretty complicated to be honest but phone swansea sea and see if they still do an import pack
these were great because the bits you didnt need and there were lots were ideal for the barby this time of year
it might be better to trailer it in if you can

    Thanks for that !

I have ordered an import pack ... at first i just thought it was the necessary forms that are needed, but after a bit of reading it is infact a lot more than that, giving valuable information etc.

I'll just have to read up on the matter.

A friend did the same thing a couple of years ago, although his father did the actual trip to Germany. He can not remember everything, but in the end everything went well.
