I have recently instigated a grievance against my employer and have today heard that they have set up a meeting for next Friday. What i would like clarified is :-
can i ask for an alternative date as i already have plans, as in fact the person who would accompany me actually terminates her employment on this day and we were all having a farewell soiree plus it is my day off. Am i correct in thinking that as it is a work grievance then the grievance meeting should be held in work time? many thanks for reading this.

It is being held in work time - theirs! And you have not got a great case in arguing yhat you can't make it because of a soiree (which is an evening do anyway - they are holding it in the evening?). Plus, after she stops working for them they don't have to let her in - trades union rep or work colleague only!0

OK - Soiree was the wrong choice of word! as it is a lunchtime farewell do! so i apologize for my error. Plus It is not the case that i wouldn't attend, as obviously it is important to me. It was more the case whether my colleague could? Plus Wednesday Thursday and Saturday i would be in working so wondered whether i was being unreasonable in maybe changing it!!!0 -
well your friend cant do Saturday.
If they had said Wed one could argue it needed more time..
I would just do Friday.0 -
you can all but ask but they won't jump through hoops for you.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

What does your contract/staff handbook say in regards to this? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
