Moving jobs - will it affect mortgage application?

Hi

I know there is a minimum amount of time you need to be in a new job before you can get a mortgage - does anyone know how long it is please? I had 3 months in my head but maybe it varies from provider to provider?

Thanks in advance

It varies. And I'd guess they'd also look at how long you were in the 1st job, and whether the new one was a permenant / temporary position or had an initial try-out period.

Best to talk to them. You are bound to inform them of any material change in your circumstances, and a new job is a material change.

hey, we have just had a formal mortgage offer and my partner was in his first week at work! This was with Santander. We went through a mortgage broker and she was able to help by giving up advice as to who was the best lenders to approach. We did have a 20% deposit. So may have helped us with the mortgage.

If it's a new job in the same industry then here is no problem.

Complete career change and I depends on the company.

I got my first mortgage with Nationwide a month before I started a new job. I showed them my offer letter which detailed the salary.
I had previously been working ad-hoc and so could not show any guaranteed income, especially as I had been on lots of holidays and had many breaks from work over that time.
I had no issues at all, but then I did have 45% deposit.

Some lenders ask for a minimum period of employment. Others want you to see out any probationary period. Last but not least, there are those who have no issue with how long you've been there as long as the new data doesn't cause you to fail the credit score.
