Acer5742z laptop set up question

I've just bought the acer 5742z laptop and was reading through the Quick Setup Instructions, when I came to point 5 on the sheet, which says ....Make sure the wireless connection is on....
I do not want the wireless connection on, I don't think I'll ever use it wirelessly, although I want to keep that option open for the future.
I'll be using this through a netgear router (haven't bought it yet)ASDL.
Does anyone know if there is a dialogue box (in setup) that will let me press a buttton that says something like .... do you want to use this wirelessly or not yes/ no .... then I can choose NO.

By default the wireless should be on, but unless you activly try and connect to a wireless network it will remain inactive.
There should be a button on the laptop (might be a physical button or a FN + F9/F7 type of thing) that will toggle the wireless on and off so it wont even search for any networks0 -
That's fine CoolHotCold, feel alot better about it now, i'll get it setup over the weekend.0

Wihtout getting the laptop out of the boot of my car (too much enegergy on a fine day like this) I think I have the same model. If it is then there is a power button above the keyboard and centre which lights up blue when you switch it on......
If so - It appears it will always start the wireless by default when you power up, however the button to switch it off should be a little one flush with the case and immediately to the right of the power button.Signaller, author, father, carer.0 -
Why would you buy a laptop if you're only intending to use it within the length of an ethernet cable from your router?
Surely the whole point of a laptop is that you trade usability and comfort (cramped keyboard and screen) for portability? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Why don't you want to use it wirelessly?
Most isp's give you a free wireless router, if you ask for one!!

I suppose the laptop will only be used in one space right next to the actual modem. Either the user doesn't want to go through the complicated setup process (its not but can seem daunting) or they think they will get a better speed (they will but its negligible that close)0 -
Helpful stuff TwistedPsycho and CHC you're right, it will be in the one place all the time.
The wireless facility may be useful though if things change.0 -
Go to Control Panel --> Network and Sharing Center, click on Change Adapter Settings. Right-click on the icon for your wireless adapter (not LAN) and select disable.604!0
