Hi all

Am thinking about getting Hubby an Android Tablet for his bday.
Can anyone advise me on a good one to get?
Are they better / worse than an Ipad?

He loves playing on his work Ipad but he is an Android lover and his phone is android so I thought it best to go for that instead.

    What's your budget?

A £130 Asda special is going to be somewhat different to a £500 Xoom.

Pretty much up to the price of an Ipad really.

  • If you're on a budget and he doesn't mind a bit of tinkering there's the advent vega for £200, it's fine but has bad viewing angles on the screen and needs some work to get it up to scratch, out of the box it's not great.

However if you're willing to pay ipad money it gets you in a new league of honeycomb goodness. One of the top ones at the moment is the asus transformer, i think its £430 with a keyboard dock or £380 without it (the keyboard adds usb sockets and doubles the battery life so could be useful at times). I used it at the gadget show and prefered it to the acer and motorola equivalents. When do you want it by as there's a wave of new ones from the likes of HTC samsung next month and even amazon are rumoured to be entering the market later this year.

If he has an ipad already that he can use at home it might be worth considering a smaller 7 inch tablet like the samsung galaxy, they are meant to be good and their smaller size makes them ideal for travelling and ebooks and it could compliment his ipad nicely.

I have the Asus Transformer with keyboard dock. The dock adds a full QWERTY keyboard, a full SD slot (the tablet has a uSD slot) and an additional battery which doubles battery life and also charges the tablet battery if away from power. It basically gives you the option of using it as a tablet or as an HD netbook - the best of both worlds. If your partner likes his Android phone, he'll love the Transformer.
