Car history check
Can anyone recommend a cheap, reliable and immediate car history checker (either by text or online)? There seem to be so many to choose from I don't know which to go with. I just need one that checks it's not a write-off, that sort of thing. Not bothered about hpi as it's such an old car.

if its such an old car why bother checking, if it has been a 'write off' then it must have been repaired and MOTd,and would normally have a marker on the logbookI

MyTextCheck seemed ok. I was in the same position as you and it came back straightaway with the description of the car, no claims on it and not stolen. Only £3 or something I think.

as weve discovered in the past on here even older vehicles have a VIC marker on them that hasnt been followed through, sold with existing MOT pre collision, some even do have finance on but with a trader dealer highly unlikely. with most HPI's they offer some sort insurance against defective details giving in the hpi so if you hpi it now and comes clear but further down the line your stopped as its stolen HPI provider will give you some sort of comeback towards it.hartcjhart wrote: »if its such an old car why bother checking, if it has been a 'write off' then it must have been repaired and MOTd,and would normally have a marker on the logbook0 -

I can also recommend 'My text check'. Other things you can do is that if you obtain the V5 number from the original keepers V5C document and MOT number from the MOT certificate you can check the history of the car on the MOT website - to ensure mileage e.t.c. tally's up.0
