Where can I get hardboard cut to size?

Need a reply ASAP please as I have a handy-man here who I'm worried will leave me in the lurch :(

Basically, I have an area I need covering. A bit of hardboard with some paint will have to do for now, but I don't have a saw or other cutting tools and do not trust myself to do it. I just want someone to cut the board to size for me.

Where can I get this done, preferably very quickly? I live near a Wickes and a Homebase. Handy man said Wickes would not do it but I'm not sure this is correct.

He can't do it as he has not brought the right tools :(

Have you telephoned Homebase and Wickes to ask them???!

If they can't do it, ask him what tools he needs, then buy them at Wickes/Homebase. A £10 saw should be more than enough.

wouldn't it be much quicker just to phone up the stores and ASK them since we do not know where you live or what services your local store offers.

look up their phone numbers here

    http://www.wickes.co.uk/customer-services/store-locator/pcat/store/

    http://www.homebase.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreLocatorFlow?langId=&storeId=10151

homebase normally do have board cutting but I'd be very surprised if they do it for stuff you did not buy in the shop

PS - don't think much of your "handiman". If the job is that urgent he could simply score the hardboard with any pointed object eg: end of a pair of kitchen scissors and snap it. Might not give a perfect break but you can always trim it later, its only hardboard after all

Wickes don't have a cutting service. Homebase will only cut sheet materials at the time of purchase...

To be fair, all you need to cut hardboard is a stanley knife (or a very sharp knife) you just score the shiny side, where you want it cut, a couple of times and it will snap. You can then trim off any wavey edges with the knife...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Thanks guys. In the end I simply got desperate and took a stanley knife to it, which seems to have worked just fine. I suppose I asked here in case anyone else had any better ideas as much as anything!

He can't be that Handy if he doesn't even have saw.

He can't be that handy if he doesn't have a Stanley Knife, nor anything suitable for cutting hardboard....

Did your not-so-handy man ask you if you had any thing such as a Stanley knife or box cutter, as they are sometimes known.

I'd kick him into the long grass and get a chap who at least has a basic tool kit.

Get some tools, learn how to do the basic stuff; changing a plug or fuse.
