Item not as described?

Hi all,

I was after a Tamron Lens for my Canon SLR, I found an auction and PM'ed the seller as the mount type wasn't listed. (I am a complete newbie to SLRs)

They replied with

"Sorry, the only technical bits I cant find

Length: 83 mm
Suitable for: Canon
Focal length: 85 - 310 mm
Affordable, high-quality telephoto zoom for SLR cameras
Compatible with Canon AF mount
Focal length of 55-200mm and aperture range of f/32 to f/4-5.6

Compatible mount: Canon AF"

So I purchased it, when it came it wasn't a Canon mount but looks like a Nikon. (Looks like the model name is exactly the same in all mounts - the seller assumed the AF meant Canon AF).

Would this still be covered by item not as described? (If I knew if worked I would sell it on but have no way to test it.)

Don't know how less 'as described' as this you can get, as your item is totally useless to you.
I would definitely return (contact seller first, they should pay return postage as it's their fault, but they can't be forced to).

Thank you, just wanted a second opinon to make sure I was being reasonable in my request.

I asked my husband about this, as he is an experienced photographer, although not a Pro. He says " Tamron lenses are always mount specific, ie: one with a Canon mount will only work with a Canon camera, likewise the same applies to Nikon and Pentax mounts. If you specifically asked the seller if the lens was Canon compatible, then the information he has supplied appears to have been gathered from a generic website, and he/she may have supplied the information to you in error, not realising that all they have gathered is generalised information, and that the mount type on the lens was NOT a Canon mount.

The seller has therefore mislead you into believing that the lens is Canon compatible, when it appears it isn't " .

In my husbands opinion you are entitled to reject the lens on the basis of inaccurate subsequent specific description.
