My Dog has a brazilian ! And a lump.

she has been balled underneath since she was done. And now round her ears, she has hardly any fur left, only on her top.

And about 3-4 years ago found a soft lump on her tummy, she had it removed and a biopsy done, came back fine and to keep an eye on it. Well it's coming back, slowly growing.. And I can feel a vein through it.

We moved since then, so have a new vet.

She is OK in her self, she is nearly 10. But with what we went through with Sam I am more worried. :(

And she is over weight, I need to get her back onto kibble.

BTW for you that don't know she is a staffy.

  • Hi Darlyd, is her skin irritated at all or is it just bald?

Mr B's losing hair at great rates and his underneath is practically hairless now - but he does have allergies and has sore red itchy skin (have found a wonderful product which helps this).

Re the lump, I'd take her to the vets for an MOT and get it checked out - and it's no wonder you're nervous after losing Sam so recently.

Older dogs do often get "fatty" lumps - I'd suggest cutting back on her food a bit to try to get a bit of weight off her as this will help her all round health.

Hair loss and bloating around tummy can be symptoms of Cushing's Disease. Along with excessive drinking (and urinating) and greatly increased appetite as was the case with my dog. It cannot be cured but is managed with blood tests and medication. She as happy and healthy as any other dog her age (11) though.

my pooch went bald underneath and has sore skin ... after skin biopsies, scrapings and blood tests it appears she is allergic to virtually everything and is now being vaccinated against her allergies she is also on a whitebait fish and tapioca diet (apparently the only things she isnt allergic to).. thank the lord for pet insurance

We don't have pet insurance, I have always put money aside each month, and of course we had to pay over 2k for Sam in total. So don't have a lot left now. :(.

I will get her into the vets this week for an MOT and I will also mention Cushing's Disease and allergy. She does not drink much or pee much, not like Sam did, She is such a good girl, she don't even come downstairs when hubby gets up for work 4am, and will stay upstairs till I decide to get my lazy but out of bed, sometimes 10am.. lol

I need to tell Hubby not to feed her, and let me do it when I get in from work, he over does it. And will buy her kibble again next week..

    Will update you..

My lad now has Cushings, we had his third blood test done on Tues and his meds have been altered. I know its early days as of yet so we havnt seen a vast change in him, but I have everything crossed for the meds to kick in and make him feel better.

Can I ask what meds your girlie is on please, and how long was it before you saw a change for the better?

Its good to find some one (other than the Vet) that can say how their own woofer has managed with this condition. xx

OP if she's not eating and drinking far more then it may not be Cushings. The baldness is often on the sides but my girl had it on her chest. She looked very pregnant and found it difficult to get comfortable lying down. She had less energy too.

Molly is on 30mg vetoryl daily. Initially it was 60, then after a few months it had to go up to 120mg. Strangely, after a year or so it seemed to work too well and she had to come down to 60, then 30, then come completely off it for a while. This is very rare apparently but does sometimes happen with larger breeds (she's an Irish Setter).

I am not exactly sure how soon she improved on the vetoryl, but I think it was about 3-4 months. I suddenly noticed her belly had gone and she had reduced the food stealing and excessive drinking. I think we had her diagnosed fairly quickly after it first developed so she was still in good form and fairly active so there was never a big difference in her that way.

BTW I get the vetoryl from vetmedsplus as they are cheaper than the vet's (still not cheap, tho!)
