Santander can issue cards under POA under certain circumstances.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2011/jul/01/santander-power-of-attorney
"Santander said it all depends on what type of power of attorney you obtained. If it is a lasting or enduring power of attorney, then you should have been allowed a card in your name, but if there was a court order involved, Santander said its policy is to cancel all cards immediately until a lasting power of attorney is obtained."
I don't see why there should be a problem unless it is a joint POA. The banks have no way to get two or more people to authorise use of a debit card or online transaction.0 -

Morning all,
THanks for all the replies and advice.
I have given up with Santander and truely believe they are incompetent!
I phoned Santander to get a cheque book and was told no I couldn't have one. The only way we could get money was to do the 30 minute journey and get money from the branch. My mothers care was nearly cancelled for non payment because there was problems getting a BACs payment - one branch refused yet another was more than happy to help and arranged the payment, this took about 15 minutes and 2 forms of ID.
Decided to move mums money to Halifax who handled the tranfer of her ISA.
There was also two savings accounts. Went into one branch of Santander and closed one account, I was given two checques because the assistant put in the wrong amount the first time. I was not asked for any ID. Account closed.
The second savings account was a nightmare it took me nearly an hour to get the cheque and close the account I needed my passport, credit card and utility bill! Even though I still bank with Santander (for the time being) the branch would not accept my debit card as part of the ID.
Because on the complications of transferring my mothers pensions and benefits these have been left with Santander and a standing order set up to transfer money into the Halifax - this was also hard work and took nearly 45 minutes to arrange - I only needed my Santander debit card and a utility bill as ID. This was done at a different branch.
It was not possible to do everything in the one visit partly due to time restrictions and partly because I was worried Santander would investigate me for theft from my mothers accounts.
I really can't understand how Santander can have so many branches across the UK with thousands of staff yet no two branches or call centre can give the same advice. I have also been told because my mothers accounts were transferred from either Alliance & Leicester or Abbey National processes for dealing with these customers are different.
My conclusion is we were descriminated against because these accounts were transferred into Santander.
This has caused me so much stress I am now worried what will happen with my financies when I am old.0 -
