Maternity Pay

Hi,

My partner has been with a company for around 7 months and we are expecting a child around Feb 2012.

I was wondering if she is entitled to maternity pay from her company? If so for how long would they pay her and how much? I have read that you can only claim if you have been with the company for over a year, is this true?

Thanks,
Danny

First of all, huge congratulations on the wonderful news.

Your partner needs to get a ciopy of her companys Maternity Policy. I work in HR and the usual for most companys is:
Pregnant employees who earn at least £95 from 1 April 2011, and have 26 weeks’
continuous service prior to end of the 15th week before the baby is due will qualify for
SMP in full, and the additional 13 weeks of AML.
Those without these indicators will qualify for Maternity Allowance (MA) and this will
be arranged through your local Job Centre Plus office.
Working Full Time but just about make ends meet.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the fast reply.

In our policy it states this:

Employees that have been employed for more than 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth have the right to take Additional Maternity Leave (AML).

I am unsure what AML is, does this mean she will get full wages or a certain % extra?

    Thanks,
    Danny

AML means she can take up to a year off, they don't pay anything after 9 months but her job will be kept for her

Thank you - do you know what sort of level of pay she will get for the first 9 months?

    Thanks,

may provide answers. The company may also have their own scheme.

    I have a quick question.

I have only recently (january) started working for my employer and am now pregnant, with the rules on maternity allowance I am just within the time limit by 6 weeks. Having recently found out that I am carrying twins my due date has now been brought forward by 3 weeks. So I am still within the timings but only by 3 weeks. The likelyhood of me going into premature labour is quite high, if I am more than 3 weeks early I will be not have worked for the company as long. Does anyone know if this would change things?
