E-bay return item advice

I would welcome some advice on the best way to deal with this. I recently purchased a crown derby figure on e-bay, the item clearly said gold button and 1st quality. When it arrived it had a silver stopper which means it is a second. As it was a present for a collector they would know this.
I contacted the seller who has now told me to send it back and he will refund. I am concerned about sending it back before I get the refund, not being funny but I have heard tales of people who have done this and then the seller refuses to refund or says it was returned damaged etc. Also I don't see why I should pay to send it back when the item was missold and not as described.
Any sage advice or words of wisdome will be gratefully received. Thanks

As long as you send it back fully tracked you will not have a problem.

Send it back fully tracked (special delivery if over £46??), then as soon as it says that it's been delivered, ask for a refund including return postage. If they won't pay return postage, then leave them negative feedback and low stars. If the won't refund at all, just open a dispute, and you'll get your money back.

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If they are a business seller they have to pay return postage for faulty/wrong items, regardless of ebay's policies.

If they refuse (and only after they have actually told you they are not going to do that, as many good sellers will) you need to remind them of their obligations, and make threats mentioning trading standards and small claims.
